More than 2 decades have elapsed since an issue of Current Problems in Surgery focused on burn care. During that time, burn surgery has matured as a subspecialty of surgery; serious injuries are increasingly concentrated in regional centers,and public expectations for survival and long-term outcomes are at unprecedented levels.
